Actors
Associates is a self-supporting fellowship of theatre lovers in service
to Actors Theatre of Louisville. While serving Actors, the Associates
enrich their own theatre experience, enhance their personal development,
and contribute to the continuing success of Actors Theatre.
An exciting array of volunteer opportunities awaits you through membership
in Actors Associates. The organization provides two kinds of opportunities:
activities for personal enrichment and various chances to support Actors
Theatre. The women and men of this dynamic organization lend their time
and talent in outstanding support of the theatre. Daytime and evening
opportunities exist in the areas of Service, Hospitality, Communication
and FUNdraising. Below is brief listing of some of those opportunities
and examples of how you can become involved.
If you feel that Actors Associates is the organization for you and that
you could contribute to its mission e-mail Director of Volunteer & Audience
Relations Allison Hammons
or call her at 502-584-1265.
ACTORS ASSOCIATES OPPORTUNITIES
HOSPITALITY
Membership Meetings
General meetings are held at Actors Theatre on the second Monday of
each month, August through May at 5:30 pm. A buffet meal, prepared by
Intermezzo Cafe, is available for $6. These meetings include lively
presentations on various aspects of theatre production and management,
a chance to socialize and get updates of current Actors Associates opportunities.
Matinee Meals
Join one of our Matinee Meals teams and feed our cast and crew on days
when performance schedules leave less than two hours between shows.
Not always available? Become a Meal Matean individual who is willing
to occasionally assist with matinee meals and crew feedings, but who
is not able to have a permanent team assignment.
SERVICE
Transportation
Be the first to meet and greet visiting actors, directors or other personnel
at the airport. Provide transportation to accommodate shopping and other
needs of guest artists or provide other transportation and assistance
while they are in Louisville. If you have a flexible schedule and a
car that holds lots of luggage, then this is the job for you !
Apprentice/Intern Company Support
Offer support and hospitality to the talented young actors and interns
who are in residence for a full season of professional training with
Actors Theatre. Since most of these young people are far from home,
members of the Associates Apprentice/Intern committees provide them
with a connection to the community by assisting with a welcoming picnic,
hosting receptions after the Apprentice/Intern showcase performances
and organizing opportunities for other social events.
Ushers for Student Matinees
Student matinees expand on learning experiences of middle and high school
students begun in the classroom and expand the minds of children who
may normally not have access to the performing arts. This committee
provides volunteer ushers for this effort. Be part of the rewarding
events while enjoying great theatre.
COMMUNICATION
Newsletter
Assist in creating, producing and distributing the Associates newsletter.
Committee members are needed to help develop ideas for newsletter content,
write articles and give assistance to the newsletter editor. Writing
not your thing? How about photography? We need photographs of our activities
for publication and for the Associates archives.
Education Committee
Provide opportunities for Associates members to learn more about Actors
Theatre, the plays it produces and its staff. This committee conducts
play discussion groups for several plays during the season. Members
assist in choosing the plays for discussion as well as selecting facilitators,
scheduling a place for the discussions and making arrangements for refreshments.
Play Discussions
Enjoy play discussions sponsored by the Education Committee. Discusssions
start at 6 pmpreceded by light refreshments at 5:45 pm. All discussions
are held on the Mezzanine except October 30, which is in the Victor
Jory lobby.
Gem of the Ocean, pre-show discussion October 2, post-show discussion
October 30
Mary's Wedding and 9 Parts of Desire, combined discussion
February 5
Humana Festival of New American Plays, post-show discussion April 17
FUNdraising
Staff "mini-stores" in the theatre lobby throughout the season to raise
funds in support Associates’ services for the theatre. Volunteers sign
up for a 3-hour shift to sell ActorsWear® and a variety of other seasonal
items.
Associates serve as spotters, models, cashiers, and crew for the theatres
biennial Prop Auction. Associates also serve as sales staff in late
October when the Costume Shop sells many of its no-longer needed costumes
to the public.
C.A.V.O.R.T.
NATIONAL OPPPORTUNITIES
Exchange ideas and share your interest in theatre with volunteers and
staff members from regional theatres across the country when you and
other Actors Associates attend the biennial C.A.V.O.R.T. (Conference
About Volunteers of Regional Theatres) held at a different selected
American professional theatre. The 2008 conference will be hosted by
the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California.
